Center for Senior Mental Health

Special Psychiatric Care for Older Adults

"The Golden Years" should be a time in our lives when we are rewarded for decades of productive and active living. But for many senior adults, this period is marked by loneliness, confusion, and despair.

If you or a loved one is experiencing these feelings, it may be time to seek professional help. The Center for Senior Mental Health at Chapman Medical Center provides 24-hour, seven days a week, intensive inpatient psychiatric treatment to patients 55 years of age and older with mental health needs unique to the older adult. Our unit provides a comfortable, caring environment.

The Center for Senior Mental Health focuses on patients with acute psychosis, depression, adjustment disorders of aging, bi-polar disorder, and early to mid-stage dementia with behavioral disorders. A variety of treatment approaches are used including individual and group therapy; recreational, occupational and physical therapies; nutritional, speech and audiology screenings.

Our treatment program is designed to assist senior adult patients to achieve their highest level of functioning so they may live as independently as possible. The treatment team consists of:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Psychiatric Nurses
  • Recreation Therapists
  • Support Program Staff

We provide each patient entering the program with a comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment and an individually tailored plan for treatment. Physicians and staff members work closely with the patients' families, when requested, to help them understand the illness, it's symptoms and treatment.
