RETURN TO BARRETT'S DISEASE

Evaluation / Testing

Barrett's Esophagus is diagnosed by a test called an upper GI (Gastrointestinal) Endoscopy.  A physician uses a flexible scope with a miniature camera attached to it to view the lining of the esophagus.  If the lining appears suspicious, the physician will take biopsies of the lining of the esophagus and send them to the hospital laboratory for a Pathologist to examine under a microscope to confirm the diagnosis.

If you would like to make an appointment to be evaluated at the Center for Heartburn & Swallowing, please call (714) 288-8098.
