Medical Director - David Oliak, M.D.
Dr. Oliak is a board certified, fellowship trained, General Surgeon who specializes in the surgical treatment of obesity.
Dr. Oliak received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and completed his General Surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Following residency training, Dr. Oliak moved to the East Coast for a one year fellowship in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
As the medical director for the Chapman Center for Obesity, Dr. Oliak strives to provide a program that achieves great long-term outcomes for patients. He has performed more than 2000 weight loss surgeries, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, lap band, and gastric sleeve operations, since fellowship training and he has achieved outcomes that surpass the published benchmarks. Dr. Oliak publishes his surgical outcomes on his website. Dr. Oliak is a strong believer in comprehensive preoperative education and ongoing postoperative support to maximize patients' long-term success.

Dr. Oliak has an ongoing interest in reasearch. He has completed numerous research studies pertaining to laparoscopic gastric bypass, including studies on the learning curve of a surgeon performing bariatric surgery and studies on laparoscopic gastric bypass for heavier patients. He has been published in scientific journals and has presented these studies at several national and international surgical meetings.
